Last Friday night Martial Arts Academy was taken over by 36 enthusiastic students for our very first NINJA NIGHT! Our Ninjas had a full evening of training, games and of course…pizza. We thought the parents would enjoy a few hours to themselves as well, so this event was great for EVERYONE!
One of our ongoing goals at the Academy is to build community among the various class groups and Ninja Night seemed like a great way to get the kids together and get to know each other better!
We started the evening by making sure everyone looked the part and had a ninja headband of their very own. We split the kids into groups of red ninjas and silver ninjas. Even the instructors got into the spirit with golden ninja head bands.
Our very own Instructor-in-Training Mr. Dvorak started the evening off with fantastic energy in his Kamas class. The students had the opportunity to learn to use this training tool correctly, put together interesting combinations and then show-off for the group with awesome energy and confidence.
The group that was not training at any given time was playing games like “Pin the Ninja Mask on BB-8” and Ninjas vs. Samurais (Think tag with creative freeze positions and hiding). A huge thank you to Faith Community Church for loaning us their large room across the hall for the games and the movie!
We enjoyed pizza together sitting in the training room, talking and resting a bit from the training. Don’t think that our ninjas were tired though! NEVER! The kids were anxious to get back to training and spent the last part of the evening training creative kicks, board breaks and nun-chuks with Ms. Freeman. Those who needed a break had the option to watch a movie, but as we neared the end of the night most of the ninjas were STILL going, training hard and having fun!
Overall, it was a fantastic night for the kids and for the Academy. It is such a pleasure to see kids from our different clubs and classes meeting each other and making friends! We are building a strong community at Martial Arts Academy!
